Creative writing is one of the manifestations of literacy. Though human beings are inherently creative, for this creativity to be purposeful, it has to be properly directed This paper examines the possibility of enhancing the creative impulse in primary school children through the Directed Reading Approach (DRA). The rationale is that if children’s potentials are appropriately channelled at this critical stage of their cognitive development, it that will have a lasting impact on their lives. They will develop a natural insight for creative writing and thereby contribute to the propagation of literacy in the society.
