EFFECTIVENESS OF EFFECTIVE ENGLISH IN THETEACHING OF ESL LEARNERS PRONUNCIATION

This study seeks to determine the effectiveness at the Phonological Teaching Points (PTP) in Effective English in an ESL classroom against the downward trend in the proficiency of ESL learners. It assesses in addition, the language skills utilized in the text. Analysis of the teaching points as presented in the text serves as the data for the study. The findings of the study reveal that (l) The FTP presented in Effective English need some modifications to assist the ESL. learner and teacher; (2) Only the skills of listening and speaking were adopted for teaching in the text. [I is then suggested that the PTP in the existing English Language course hooks in Nigeria be reviewed. incorporating the whole language skills for the improvement of the teaching and learning of spoken English in Nigeria.
