The secondary school student. like any other human being. lives in the context of the social institution. which determines to a great extent his behavioural pattern. His values and ideals. Apart from the influence of the immediate society. there it the immediate family. which also plays a very vital role in the shaping of the child ‘s character In addition to these. the social class to which the family belongs equally influences to a great extent the all round development of children (Ansa. 1984). The occupational status of the parents has. a direct influence on children It attitude to work and reading. This paper reports the findings of an emperical research which examines the influence of the home on the reading habits of some selected secondary school students in Ondo Local Government Area. The research focused on whether the low reading habits of students can he linked to the socio-economic and
educational status of the parents.
