Abstract 
The paper defines reading for pleasure and refers to works on the importance of cultivating and sustaining interest in reading which is an important language skill for enhanced learning and education. It highlights some of the problems and wrong attitudes of undergraduates towards the extensive reading component of the English and Communication Skills (ECS) course. The paper also points out-the roles and attitudes of the teachers and the university administration, the impact of the learning environment and materials. It poses a number of questions on the content and methodology of teaching the course. It gives suggestions for improving the course content and methodology as’ well as encouraging better attitudes among students. lecturers and the administration
