FACILITATING LITERACY IN NIGERIAN MOTHER TONGUE:THE ROLE OF EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM

This article focuses on facilitating literacy in mother tongue: the role of effective and efficient teacher education program. The paper assumes that mother tongue education is fundamental in [are—university education. This is in line with the 1997 National Education Policy. Based on this, the paper made some suggestions, which include three models, which will cater specifically/or the teaching competence of trainees in the teacher education program. The
models include (a) integrative model, (b) collaborative model and whole language.
