ABSTRACT
Unquestionably, literacy is an instrument which enhances participatory
democracy. Against this background, this paper holds that to enthrone the
democratic values of freedom, justice and equality, the family which is the nucleus of the nation must be provided with sustainable literacy. The paper proposes that efforts should be geared towards ensuring that no community has an illiterate family, and no family has an illiterate person. This vision can be realized through a reading revolution. Strategies for the success of this revolution are examined in this paper.
