A B S T R A C T
In this paper, the author submits that although school administrators and planners experience shortage of funds, teachers, books and other resources, yet, it is possible to make many more Nigerians not only read and write, but also, actually acquire appropriate skills, abilities, and competencies that have direct “practical bearings ” on various aspects of their community life.
Such heights can only be reached through a careful implementation of our national policy on education and a Systematic involvement of the entire community in functional literacy programmes.
