GUIDED INSTRUCTION: A PANACEA‘ FOR SECOND LANGUAGE TEACHING IN A MULTI-LINGUAL

The study investigated the relationship between students’ achievement in the main idea skill of comprehension and the effective use of the guided instruction technique. The subjects were 120 students randomly selected form 4 secondary schools in Ndokwa west LGA of Delta State. The instruments for the study consisted of a cloze test. instructional programmes and the achievement tests, which were all researchers designed. The data collected were computed through ANOVA and ANCOVA. The findings revealed that there is a significant relationship between students ‘ performance amid the teachers’ method. This has implications for education in general and language teaching in particular.
