HOME. COMMUNITY AND SCHOOL VARIABLES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF LANGUAGE AND LITERACY IN NIGERIAN LANGUAGE

This paper postulate that the task of fostering language and literacy development in Nigerian indigenous languages is a joint responsibility of the home community and the school The roles of these triple agencies of education are conceived within the framework of current educational theories and practice especially those implied in the Whole language philosophy of education of which the transactional or active concept learning is an aspect the idea canvassed in the paper is that family literacy can serve as a pivot of most literacy activities involving the home community and the school with immense advantages. Inputs from the larger society will be expected in terms of seminars and workshops as well as other awareness and popularization programmes.
