LITERACY DEVELOPMENT FOR LEARNING DISABLED CHILDREN

This paper looks at the problem of reading disability as manifested by two children Particular attention is given to the problem as manifested by one of’ the two children. Steps that were taken to diagnose this child’s problem In various professionals in different institutions are given. Activities that the child was engaged in to help him out of his problem are also reported. Parents, especially mothers are advised to be close to their children and check their school work regularly, .so that they will he able to detect any problem with deviation in the child’s development and his school work, in time and seek measures of correcting sue/1 faults or deviations in time. The paper concludes l7]? advocating the establishment of remedial departments in schools. especially primary school or remedial centres in strategic areas and the training of personnel for these departments or centres. Request is also made for the provision learning materials for the departments or centres so that they can function effectively.
