Abstract

The main purpose of literacy for professional development and job security is to mobilize, encourage, develop and strengthen enquiring minds in people of various professions in order to acquire relevant skills and knowledge. This is not 0nly to enhance their efficiency and productivity, but also to help to promote effective service delivery in various organisations. In consideration of the important contributions of literacy for professional development and
job security, this paper seeks to examine: the problems and contributions of literacy for professional development and job security in the changing world of work. This paper tries to examine critically the factors, which facilitate both the personal and organizational reasons for promoting literacy for professional development and job security in various organisations in the society today. To carry out the investigation of the problems of this study, four research questions were answered. The findings of this study indicate that literacy for professional development and job security helps people in various organisations to remain relevant in their chosen professions and to enhances organizational efficiency and expertise in areas that are critical to the organisation among others.
