LITERACY, HUMAN RIGHTS AND GOOD GOVERNANCE

Abstract
This study investigated literacy. human rights and good governance. This was motivated by the observed relevance of literacy and human rights in governance in Nigeria and in the world today. Literacy is discussed within a rights-based approach and among principles of inclusion/or human development. The rationale/or recognising literacy as a right based on the set benefits it confers on individuals. families, communities and nations are considered. The study discussed human rights. and examined the links between literacy and human rights on one hand and the literacy and good governance on the other. The crucial importance of literacy to governance. and the basic reforms and revolutions literacy can bring to human rights were considered. Finally. the study established the link between literacy. human rights and good governance. and highlighted the problems illiteracy can cause in a society.
