Literacy in any language opens unfathomable doors to several opportunities and experiences. The stipulation in the Nigerian Policy on Education that children should be exposed to early literacy instruction in their Mother Tongue or language of the immediate environment underscores the inestimable value of literacy in one ’s Mother Tongue. But what happens to languages which are yet to be developed not to mention standardization for literacy purposes?
While admitting this problem, this paper confronts the obstacles and also suggests how to overcome the dilemma of literacy in Nigerian Languages as Legbo and Loka 7 (two languages spoken in Central Cross River State) typify.
