MAKING MEANING OUT OF THE MEDLEY: A TAXONOMIC NEXUS 0F LITERACIES AND LITERACY AND FUNCTIONS

This paper is an attempt to situate the theme of “Literacy Good’ Governance” within a taxonomic nexus of literacies and literacy functions with a view to establishing connections and relationships among several literacies which appear to be in a flux. especially in this Age of knowledge explosion and information super—highways. The paper explores the theoretical foundation of taxonomies within the principles of concept-mapping in cognitive psychology It highlights the epistemological. pedagogical and research values of taxonomies within the trans-disciplinary field of literacy. Adopting a 5—parameter template and a 4—rubic framework respectively. the paper proposes two complementary taxonomies of literacies and literacy functions as a way of bring more order and harmony within the “medley” and enhancing professionalism in literature discuss.
