Promoting Independent Reading Habits in Primary Schools Through A Literacy Rich Classroom Environment
Jane 0. Omojuwa (DR.)
The classroom environment here refers to the physical environment in which teaching and learning activities take place. It is an important factor in the teaching and learning of reading in the primary school which is often taken for granted.Emphasis seems to be wholly on pedagogy, content selection and presentation, and other more direct instructional issues. While not denying the importance of these aspects of reading instruction process, it appears the level of their effectiveness and success will invariably be affected by the state of the classroom environment. In other words, the physical environment of the classroom can facilitate or hinder the acquisition and development of literacy skills.
