This paper highlights the reading problem which is the major problem responsible for the performance of poor most students in our tertiary institutions especially the Colleges of Education and its implication for life long learning. The result of 150 out of 600 pro—NCE students’ performance in an end of semester examination in reading and summary was analysed. It was found that the students‘ performances was abysmally poor especially in summary which requires a higher level of understanding. Several intervention programmes were then recommended as a proposal for tackling the reading problem at the NCE level of our educational system.
