Just before the dawn of our independence in 1960. we had produced a very sophisticated and articulate workforce in the Third World and in Africa. In the field of politics. agriculture. the health. natural and social sciences and in the humanities we had women and men who ranked amongst the most educated in the world. They were adequately equipped to give service not only to Nigeria and Africa but also to the entire human race. Thus at independence. it was clear that as a result of our educated and sophisticated workforce and manpower. our country would provide the needed leadership not only to liberate the rest of Africa from the shackles of colonialism. but also to enable Africa and the Third World to acquire the technology that would enable them to compete favourably with the rest of the developed world.
