Using Literacy Instruction to Promote Peace in The Families of Children with Profound Hearing Impairment.

This paper gives a report of an intervention with 5 families of children with profound hearing impairment. The main aim was to reduce the conflict between the children. their parents, and other members of the family through literacy instruction. The size of the sample used for the study was 30 which were made up of10 parents, 5 male siblings, 5 female siblings. 5 children with profound hearing impairment and 5 teachers of hearing impaired children The participants were exposed to eight weeks of treatment using literacy instruction and the teaching of sign language. The data collected were analysed using simple percentages. The main result of the findings was that the literacy and sign language instruction helped a great deal in reducing the conflicts caused by communication barriers in the family. Based on the findings, a few recommendations were made to the parents, neighbours and other members of the family.
