ABSTRACT
This paper is an attempt to look at the various ways in which the Yoruba language Mother Tongue (MT) can serve as an important medium of instruction in the acquisition of’ French. Foreign Language (FL). The research will focus on three important linguistic areas i.e phonology. morphology and syntax. Each component will be critically looked at to determine to what extent the use of MT can he effective in the learning of (FL). However the problem of interference may not be entirely ruled out in two cultures come together. After a critical analysis, the linguistic component, which will serve as the best medium to be used by MT for the learning of FL. will be suggested.
