An Investigation Into Occupational Literacy Needs, Using The Barrett Taxonomy of Cognitive and Affective Dimensions of Reading Comprehension From Workers’ Perspective.
Dr. Sunny E.I. Odiase
The objective of this study is to identify the comprehension reading requirements of Messengers, Typists, Clerks and Administrators currently working at the Delta State University, using The Barrett Taxonomy of Literacy Comprehension Skills. To achieve this objective, a-one-tailed directional hypothesis was formulated to direct the research and a-21-item questionnaire was administered on the four groups of workers comprising randomly drawn fifteen respondents from each group. Results showed that the higher the status of the group of workers the higher the
requirement on the taxonomy. The hypothesis was accepted. The implication of the study is discussed.
