Abstract
The causes of poor reading may be due lo many factors but certainly, they
include the poor knowledge of developmental reading instruction of many
teachers. This study investigated the Educational background and knowledge of the reading method of teachers in the Grade Two Teachers colleges in Plateau State and also, the knowledge the leacher trainees have acquired under their training. ‘the Grade Two Teachers  Syllabus was also evaluated. Weaknesses have been observed in all the aspect mentioned and  suggestions have been advanced for improvement of the reading method of teachers and programmes in their Syllabus.
