Developing Distance-Learning Materials on the Teaching of Reading

It is expected that this paper would have been preceded by a 15 minutes slide on the National Teachers‘ Institute, Kaduna, Nigeria.
The main objective of this paper is to set out how the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) is currently preparing for publishing some Grade II self—instructional course texts in English Methods. This is a much needed area in Teacher Education in Nigeria.
These English methods texts give instructions on how the skills of:
i. listening/speaking
ii. reading and
iii. writing, can be introduced by the school teacher at various
levels of‘ primary education in Nigeria.
