Helping Pupils Cultivate the Habit of Reading through Library Use

Reading is essential for intellectual development and acquisition of knowledge. Thus,cultivating the habit of reading is vital for success and progress in all spheres of Ii e. It is necessary to cultivate this habit early in one ‘s li e. Pupils need to be trained to develop a flair for reading since success is hinged on effective reading habits. This paper examines how pupils can be trained and helped to cultivate reading habits. It explores the use of libraries to
achieve this feat. The paper also highlights the reading needs of pupils and other educational activities that can spur them to reading and make the activity much more interesting and appealing to them. Using structured interview and observation, it was revealed that children ‘s libraries, school libraries, and educational literacy activities help pupils cultivate the habit of reading.
