The paper gives a succint analysis of the contents of the national policy on
education, with emphasis on the .,. three-three .,, segments of the system. It takes a critical look at the professional services provided by the librarian,
on the basis of experience in a school library situation, and calls for change in mental attitudes, professional skills, academic knowledge: change in the role of governnent officials, change in the role of the Nigerian Library Association, and in the orientation of the Departments of Library and Archival Studies and Information Science. This paper recomnends a discriminating pattern of library use for the realisation of the objectives of the 6-3-3-4 programme of education. It postulates the school library as an adjunct service to the new scheme.
