Modern Theatre Practice in Nigeria: The Literacy factor

Bedevilled with a lot of misconceptions at the early stage, the image of the modem Nigerian theatre seems to be improving. However, as theatre-going culture is emerging many still see the profession as a “laughable pastime”. This is because theatre literacy is still very low in Nigeria. Not many know the volume of work involved in putting up a theatrical performance. This paper seeks to rip open the rigours of creativity theatre collaborators go through to prepare, perfect and present any length of performance. The aim being to get people better educated about the complexly demanding nature of theatre work and re—direct proper value placement.
