This paper is a description of my personal experience as a headmaster’ in two different private schools and as a trainer of headmasters as supervisors in the LGED primary schools. It refers only to the Jos metropolitan area, it does not claim to be based on academic research and I cannot estimate how wide its general application may be. I think this anecdotal evidence is worth giving because of the gap that appears to exist between those engaged in academic research on reading and those teaching primary school children.
