Preparing Materials and Teachers for Teaching Rapid Reading in Secondary Schools in Nigeria

Though it is claimed that rapid reading is hardly taught in secondary schools, this paper tries to show two things. One is that if teachers are taught how to prepare instructional materials to develop rapid reading and are provided with opportunities to practise using them, they in turn will help pupils to develop their speed. The other is that, given systematic instruction and regular practice, the reading speed of some secondary school pupils will improve.
