Reading Assessment in Nigerian Schools

The promotion of literacy in Nigeria today is the concern of V professionals in many fields – publishers, authors, librarians, teachers at all levels from nursery school through adult literacy classes. Special Educators, concerned with the exceptional learner, are not left out of this great effort. In particular, Special Educators in the area of Learning Disabilities concern themselves with the individuals for whom learning to learning to read is an exceptionally difficult task. Educators in this area may work as resource teachers in primary and secondary schools providing
specialised reading instruction to children who need it. These specialised instructional programmes are based on the individual child’s particular learning needs as determined through the use of reading assessment instruments.
