This paper examines seine negative attitudes of some undergraduates to reading, and ways of fostering positive attitudes. One hundred and twenty undergraduates constitute the case study for the research. The instrument for collection of data is the questionnaire administered on the students. The findings reveal the apathy, lack of zeal and commitment shown by some undergraduates to reading. On the basis of these findings, the paper suggests some ways of fostering positive attitudes through motivation by teachers, reading campaign, books on audio-tapes and on the computer. The paper concludes that these methods would foster positive attitudes to reading, since reading is essential for personal, educational and social fulfilment.
