This paper is a response to the need to find alternative solutions to the problem of scarcity of children’s literature in Nigeria. It posits that the child himself is by his very nature a Viable resource for the production of suitable reading material for his peers; proposes (in line with the current national trend to ’catch them young’) that he can and should be encouraged both to write and to publish; and suggests some of the roles which may be played by parents, teachers, writers, publishers, and especially by the Reading Association of Nigeria (RAN) in this regard.
